Meet Bear!

Oh, the story of Bear!  For a solid two years, at least three times a week, one of my children asked when we are getting a dog.  The boys, in particular, had become obsessed with dogs-obsessed.  Brad and I discussed it off and on for a while and decided on a goldendoodle.  Some friends in our neighborhood had adopted a goldendoodle last December from a couple (Courtney and Mitchell Frank) that went/worked at Second Baptist.  Back in March, I contacted Courtney Frank and asked if she and Mitchell were planning on another litter, but since they were expecting their first child they had decided to have both of their goldendoodles "fixed".

So Brad and I continued to discuss getting a dog, and we came very, very close in June to adopting one.  However, we decided that waiting until next summer to get a puppy might make the most sense.  At this point I think Brad and I wanted the dog the most.  Fast forward to August, and Courtney emailed me out of the blue letting me know that she and Mitchell were considering finding a new home for their male goldendoodle, Bear.  She was expecting her first son the following week, and they felt Bear might do better as an only dog.  Just was just putting the bug in my ear, as she and Mitchell wanted to wait until October until Bear turned two and was officially out of the "puppy stage".  I instantly freaked out and emailed her back saying of course we'd be interested, and we'd even love to take him sooner!  I then called Brad :)

After some back and forth texts, Courtney asked if I thought bringing Bear over for a "playdate" would be ok.  Brad had to work late, but the kids loved having Bear over under the guise of seeing whether we could get a goldendoodle one day.  Because Brad and James were scheduled to leave for Yellowstone at the end of the week, and Courtney and Mitchell's baby could come any day, we ended up taking Bear within 24 hours of this whole conversation beginning!

Dad finally meets Bear!

We absolutely LOVE Bear and have been so blessed by Courtney and Mitchell!  (Not to skip ahead, but it turns out the God really is in the details, even in the dog details.  Courtney and Mitchell's baby was born a week before Harvey made landfall.  Their home flooded, and they had to evacuate to Courtney's parents.  I talked to Courtney during all of this, and she said she isn't sure Bear would have fit in the car when they evacuated.  She also told me that many people had emailed her during the year asking if Bear and Lady would have another litter, and I was the only person she contacted about taking Bear!)

Lots of Bear pictures!
