Hurricane Harvey: where to begin? Well, the night before (Thursday) we evacuated, we all went to an Astros game--Luke's first. Natalie let Luke borrow her glove :)

The local news was somewhat downplaying the threat of Harvey (we were being told we'd get about 15 inches of rain over a 5 day period), but thank God (literally) for mothers that do no stop calling asking if you are evacuating! We made the decision to evacuate to MS on Friday (school was already closed), but as we were pulling out of the driveway, we ran into neighbors who had lived on our street for 40 years. They were all staying and didn't feel we would lose power. Brad wasn't sold on leaving to begin with, so we made the very, very difficult decision to split up---the kids and I went to MS, and Brad stayed here. I am so glad we made both decisions. Brad stayed in Houston, cleaning out drains during light periods of rain, sandbagging the house, etc. The kids and I (and Bear) were able to avoid being trapped inside for four-five days.
Our families in MS really put arms around us: Mom and Dad took care of the kids while I sat in their room, door closed, glued to the Weather Channel. Cousins let us come over for multiple playdates, and everyone just loved on us. It was an extremely stressful week, but thankfully our house did not take on water. Lots of friends and neighbors did, and the mix of emotions was also difficult.
Double dog walking duty!
I think this day was towards the end of our stay, and as I recalled, this is when I hit my wall and some, if not most, of us left the bowling alley in tears.
Mom, Allison and I were suppose to leave for London the Thursday after Harvey made landfall. We had to reroute our flights, but thankfully Brad was able to make it out of Houston on Tuesday. He went to College Station and then over to Shreveport and arrived in Houston on Wednesday. On his was out Tuesday he sent me the picture below saying "a sign of better days ahead." Still tears at my heart....
Happy to have dad!
